At the start of my freshman year, I signed up for FWIS 133: Women in the Holocaust. I chose this FWIS because I had just returned from a trip to Eastern Europe where I visited various concentration camps and Holocaust Memorial sites, and I wanted to contiue learning about the Holocaust from an academic persepctive. I come from a Jewish family, so learning about Jewish history and culture made me feel connected to my parents and my other Jewish relatives. I registered for more Jewish Studies courses in order to learn more about my family's history and culture. I found myself fascinated with the history of the Jewish people, so I applied to work at the Houston Jewish Historical Archive, where I became a Digital Processing Intern. My work in the archive taught me about local Jewish history, which is a subject I never imagined learning about. I love the Jewish Studies program because the interdisciplinary courses allow me to learn about Judaism and Jewish people from different perspectives in a unique way.
